The AI & Data Science team within the Department of Bioinformatics is dedicated to the development and application of modern data science approaches (specifically machine learning) in precision medicine, systems medicine and early drug discovery. The work of the AI & Data Science group covers a value chain ranging from molecular system reconstruction & modelling over drug target identification and finding the right drug for the right patient (precision medicine) up to clinical trial design. We are looking for a Biomedical Data Scientist to join our team in Sankt Augustin near Bonn as soon as possible.
The team and the entire Department of Bioinformatics are internationally well connected and are working closely together with leading European and US institutions from academia and industry.
What you will do
- Development & application of innovative algorithms in the field of machine learning, specifically with focus on healthcare
- Presentation of results via scientific publications, workshops and conferences as well as to external collaboration partners
- Active support of team leader in terms of acquisition of new projects and technology transfer into pharma and biotech industry
What you bring to the table
- PhD (strongly preferred) or M.sc. with excellent grades in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomathematics or a similar subject
- Clear understanding of statistical and mathematical concepts underlying Data Science
- High level of intrinsic motivation and enthusiasm for translational research connecting academia and industry
- Strong passion for Data Science with documented experiences plus an equally strong and documented interest in biomedicine
- Documented experience with relevant biomedical data types, e.g. longitudinal clinical data, clinical real-world data such as electronic health records, genomic data, or data from digital healthcare applications
- Strong programming skills in python and demonstratable experience with Tensor Flow and / or PyTorch
- Ability to work independently
- Very good English speaking and writing skills
- Very good communication skills

The weekly working time is 39 hours.
